Fine Woodworks was founded in 1980, in a small storefront on Chicago’s near north side. Since that time we have moved locations several times to arrive at our current home on North Ravenswood in Chicago where we share space with three other furniture and upholstery related businesses.

construction of the Japanese Tear Room for the Loose Park Garden CenterOne of Fine Woodworks’ first commissions was from Oprah Winfrey in 1982, for an office display cabinet. We have recently constructed a Japanese tea house for the city of Kansas City Missouri. The tea house is used for general viewing and actual tea ceremonies. Please click on Japanese Tea Room for more information. The Japanese tea house is found at the Loose Park Garden Center.

We are currently designing and building custom furniture using lumber from storm damaged trees, or trees which have been removed by local community governments. One of these pieces—a 13 foot long conference table made from a silver maple tree which was downed in a summer storm—was chosen for display at an exhibit focusing on innovative design using recycled materials.

At present we are making available a number of custom designed furniture pieces using wood from local sources. In addition, we make furniture which incorporates “found” objects, utilized in a way which was not their intended purpose.

At Fine Woodworks, we also work directly with clients to design and build furniture for their home or office. These furniture pieces compliment each unique setting and reflect the individual tastes of the clients.
